“…In The Wilderness build me a nest, let me remain there forever at rest…”
Have you heard it yet?
The romantic legend of The Wilderness Hotel. The tale is told of a young man who falls in love with a beautiful orphan named Theresa. She wanted to be taken away from what she called, “The haunting of memory” and so she sang from Haydn’s Creation, “..In The Wilderness build me a nest, let me remain there forever at rest…”. After challenging and fatal wagon journeys over the Outeniquas they settled in the paradise village where forest meets soft golden beaches and also where the Indian Ocean creates a unique border. In this paradise they had their wedding in which Theresa wore an ancient bridal gown once worn by her grandmother in the courts of France. A charming legend associated with the Paradise village.
If the legend does not get your soul ready for the journey there is also the tale of how the eastern section of Wilderness Beach got named, Leentjiesklip. A young woman named Leentjie had a job as an oyster catcher down by the rocks. Her darling lover left her for another woman, breaking her heart. Wrecked, Leentjie drowned her pain throwing herself in the ocean by the rocks. This is a tale of both true love and heartbreak.
The Wilderness is the true Gem of Passion and the perfect paradise for lovers both young and old. It is suitable for new love with passion still burning as hot as the summer sun and also old lovebirds who still have the spark in the relationship and true old school love.
